Gerard McCool & Son Funeral Director

Gerard McCool & Son Funeral Directors have served the people of Ballybofey and the surrounding areas for many years, a role they undertake with dedication and empathy.

Gerard McCool (senior) founded his undertaking business in 1930, and his son, also Gerard, continued the family name when he took over in 1975, following the death of his father.

Gary, representing a third generation of McCool’s, has recently become involved in the family business, and is now a qualified embalmer, having graduated from The McGowan School of Embalming, Ballina, Co. Mayo in 2013.

At McCool’s, taking care of every  detail related to the funeral, on behalf of  the bereaved family, is key to ensuring that the funeral is carried out according to the family’s wishes and expectations.

We also have a Chapel of Rest, which can be used at the request of the family. Offering the bereaved family peace of mind is central to what we do. We provide a 24 hour service, every day of the year.

Some of the services we provide include:

  • Provision of Chapel of Rest (at family's request)
  • Liaise with the celebrant
  • Undertake both burials and cremations
  • Grave opening, in the case of burial
  • Completion of all relevant paperwork and formalities for cremation
  • Hygienic preparation of the deceased for viewing and waking
  • Transportation of the deceased in a secure and dignified manner
  • Organising ceremony music &  Ordering floral tributes (silk or fresh flowers)
  • Placement of death notices (radio, press, web) as requested
  • Provision of condolence books for the family
  • Arrange funeral car transport for the bereaved family (as requested)
  • Repatriation of the deceased to and from Ireland, if required

A family member, or someone closely connected to the deceased, must arrange the registration of the death as this cannot be  done by the Funeral Director. Should you wish to contact us to discuss any funeral arrangements, feel free to get in touch in person or by telephone – whichever is easiest for you.
