The family and husband of the late Eileen Sweeney of Kimmage, Dublin, ICTU and late of Ardglass, Castlelyons, Co. Cork, who died on June 8, 2020 (unexpectedly) at home would like to thank everyone who has sympathised with them on their great loss.

We offer our heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbours whom sent cards, expressed their sympathies and all those who provided emotional and practical support for us at this difficult time. For those who telephoned, travelled long distances, sent floral tributes, cards and messages of condolences, we are truly grateful.

We’d like to express a special word of thanks to Eileen’s wonderful family the Sweeney’s for their love and support. Their gentle nature and care brought a cherished piece of Eileen’s memories and spirit to Dublin, aiding all necessary preparations and lending a firm shoulder of support in this time of need.

To Eileen’s wonderful husband, Tom McCabe, for his eternal love and the strength he showed amongst this unforeseen journey. He honoured Eileen’s life and wishes and ensured a piece of her would remain in us all. And to Tom’s family, The McCabes/Kelly’s and further extended whom stood by him and maintained a noble form of love and support and offered their helping hands during this sorrowful time.

We’d like to express our eternal gratitude to David and Maura Begg’s and family who remained one of Eileen’s closest friends and confidant for many years while working together and to Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland, we give many thanks. Eileen was always proud and honoured to work alongside you and we are very thankful for your representative Lt.Colonel Howard for attending our farewell to our Gorgeous Eileen and sharing your condolences.

To the many organisations whom worked alongside Eileen-The International Trade Union Confederation, IBEC, HSE, Maynooth University, Teachers union of Ireland, Connect Trade union, SIPTU, Forsa Trade union, and to Patricia King, general secretary of ICTU and all former Colleagues and friends at Concern Worldwide Ireland, we want to express our most sincere thanks.

We deeply thank members of our family who catered for us on this sorrowful day and share a big thank you to the Brian McElroy funeral directors who’s work and kindness aided us through the hard plannings of  our  melancholiac journey.

Last but not least, we want to share our many thanks to all of Eileen’s dear friends. To all her friends and neighbours in Blarney Park and to her large, beloved circle of friends and neighbours in the place she called a second home, Messonghi and Morratika located in Corfu, Greece. Here Eileen created many memories in which she and her beloved husband Tom will hold forever.

To all  those who helped in any way, your contribution made our loss more bearable. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Many Thanks,

Tom and Family.
