Oranmore, Galway / Borrisokane, Tipperary

In Loving Memory of Astrid Hassett (née Bailey) late of Ard na Mara, Oranmore, Co.Galway, and formerly of Borrisokane Co.Tipperary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024 aged 82. Astrid died at Galway Hospice, following a brief final illness having faced the challenge of Motor Neurone Disease with quiet strength and remarkable grace.

 

Astrid had an unceasing interest in others, a love of travel, a boundless curiosity, and she had a wide circle of friends across the world.

 

Survived by her loving children Sean, Tara, Dagmar, and Elizabeth, and their partners Gem, Rónán, Dean, and Paul. Astrid was a cherished grandmother to Brosna, Sian, Oliver, and Hazel. She was also a dear sister to Alex and his wife Elaine, and was predeceased by her loving sister Estelle. Astrid is also remembered fondly by her nephews and nieces Anwar, Conrad, Sophie and Aisling and her extended family. We also remember Astrid's late beloved niece Sharee.

 

The family extends sincere thanks to all of Astrid's medical carers, including her GPs, home help team, people from the Irish MND Association, but particularly to the staff of Galway Hospice whose unceasing professionalism and care will always be remembered.

 

Funeral Service at 12 noon on Monday, April 29th, at St. Nicholas Collegiate Church, Lombard St., Galway (H91 PY20), followed later by a private cremation ceremony.
