The death has occurred of

Claire McGarry

Seamount, Courtown Harbour, Gorey, Wexford

Claire McGarry of Seamount, Courtown Harbour, passed away on Wednesday, 1st September 2021. She was 80 years old, a birthday the lovely staff at Valentia Nursing Home (where she had lived for the last 3 years) acknowledged for her on the 16th July with a homemade birthday cake decorated with fresh strawberries (a favourite fruit of hers) and filing into her room to sing "Happy Birthday" to her.  This small act was a testament to the affection that Claire was so quick to engender in all who knew her.   Her warmth and easy manner, her love of conversation and her genuine interest in people assured that she could count many of those she met as friends.

Claire was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Frank, who sadly passed away a few months shy of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, in December 2013.  As a couple they were the best of friends and loving partners in life.  They shared many wonderful years and adventures together living in Ireland, Scotland and Bahrain and travelling around the world.  Together while in Bahrain they also assisted in setting up and running the Ecumenical Conference of Charity a charitable organisation that helped the underprivileged and struggling.  They were both strong in their faith and in their dedication to helping people where needed.

Claire was a profoundly loving mother, who shared a close relationship with her three daughters.  She was fiercely supportive of them and was the greatest of company and a fun loving companion, always ready to dive into any trip or explore with them and enjoying many laughs along the way.  She leaves behind her three daughters Joan, Barbara-Ann and Mary, who will miss her deeply but who are glad that she is now back with her beloved Frank.

She also leaves behind her much loved grandchildren Dorian (Lisa), Fionnuala (Chris), Price, Kyle (Aine), Dane (Sharon), Bethany and Eileanor and her adored grand-daughters Indie, Saoirse, Elora and Leah. She also leaves behing her dear sister Imelda (Gene) Horgan.

Claire's Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, 11th September, in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Riverchapel, at 3 p.m. followed by Burial in Ardamine Cemetery.

The family very much appreciate your support and co-operation during this sad and difficult time and would be grateful if you would express your messages of sympathy on the Condolence link below this notice. Family flowers only, please. Donations, in lieu, to any Cancer charity.
