To Leonie Heather & Cian
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
EMILY DICKINSON
Very dear friend loved always "One love shall reign in hearts its flame has lighted"

Met Alec when De Dannan played a gig at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven county CT.We chatted after gig and then at North Haven Irish club. Then followed them to a gig in Rhode Island.I and my toddler son were sent out of the pub over a misunderstanding.Alec halted the performance and found us in the large parking lot and got us back in.A real gentleman.
I was able to repay this kindness by helping getting them a gig in Orlando,FL.He was a great musician and a fine person. We had some grand talks.
— Robert Bradley

Alec you created and invented a truly original sound admired by people globally, you were such an inspiration to me as a musician and a man, loved your character and will never ever forget meeting you many moons ago at Oranmore sailing club.

Thinking of your wife, kids, family and all members of the band you created with Frankie all those years ago.

Fly with your hawks safe xx

Very sad. The last time Alec travelled through Paris and stayed overnight in my place he asked for my guitar and played for me "les feuilles mortes". Magnificently. My guitar and me will never forget this moment.

Fond memories of sharing many concert stages with Alec and the band during my time singing with the band in the early eighties. Alecs playing style has become an integral part of the modern sound of Irish music and will continue to inspire many generations to come.
RIP

Very sorry to hear of Alec’s death. Huge legacy re accompaniment of traditional music, lovely sensitive approach but engendered great lift, central to De Danann’s unique sound. Hugely influential, and inspirational to many of us who used stringed instruments to accompany traditional music. Fondly remembered. Suaimhneas síoraí dó.
