Dear Marie and family, thinking of you all at this time. Tony showed how to live and his passion and attention to others in how and what he spoke of and did, was his own to share time and time again. In our loss, there are, and will be so many ways to notice how his influence lives on.
Much love to you all.
— Claire Desmond

Sincere sympathy and prayers to Marie and all the Holten family. We met Tony RIP through the Cork Stroke Group when he was one of the first to greet us warmly. Over the years we found Tony to be a remarkable, kind and knowledgeable gentleman who contributed enormously to CSSG. Tony had endless patience with Brian and other members with communication difficulties and his book “A Stroke of Luck”was very helpful.
He will be sadly missed by all. Tony, rest in peace.

Marie and family, I was shocked to hear of the passing of Tony, he will be sadly missed by staff and students in the School of Nursing & Midwifery, UCC. For the last number of years, Tony kindly shared his experience with our students and engaged them with his determined attitude and approach to recovery. Sadly, our plans to make a recording were hampered by the public health restriction in March. Tony's legacy will always be remembered in our neuro rehabilitation lectures. We are forever grateful. May he rest in peace.

So sad to hear about the untimely death of Tony, a friend whose words of wisdom and endearing personality will be greatly missed. He was a major driving force in the development of the Cork Stroke Support Group. He served as the first chairman gaining respect and admiration from all who met him. He was a great advocate for stroke survivors and provided valuable insight into rehabilitation and recovery through his writing and presentations.
Above all, he adored his family and I hope that he is now with his beloved son Joe. Marie, John, Anna Marie, Matilda and extended family, sincere condolences.

To Marie, John, Anna, Stuart, all the Holten & Bradley families our deepest sympathies on your immense loss.
As Tony’s friends we share with you your loneliness and pain. Our only consolation is that we knew a very special person who enriched our lives. He shared willing with us his encyclopedic knowledge, his wisdom, his unconditional love and laugher. The adage “he never met a stranger he did not know”, fitted Tony like a glove and many strangers became lifelong friends.
When enough time has passed, we will be able to read again his wonderful books, especially “The River Boyne”, and hear again his words that we will miss so much.
Our loss is heavens gain, may he rest in peace.
