Colleagues at Science Foundation Ireland and the Irish Research Council extend their sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Anton Walsh. Anton was one of the first recipients of a prestigious and highly competitive SFI-IRC Pathway fellowship grant in 2022. This grant was made to support his research in infrared laser sensors and their application in monitoring agricultural emissions – an area of significant national importance. From speaking to his colleagues, it is clear that Anton was an excellent researcher dedicated to supporting his team and his colleagues. Our thoughts are with Anton’s family, friends and colleagues at Munster Technological University.

He was a great friend, such a kind person, and an awesome scientist. I was shocked to hear of his untimely passing, and am so sad we never got to have that catch-up pint in Cork. The world has lost another goodun. Rest in peace Anton. X

I had the pleasure of teaching Physics & Applied Maths to Anton in Mt. St Michael. He was a humble and talented student and had a very caring attitude. His laid back sense of humour contributed greatly to the class atmosphere.
Anton leaves a wonderful scientific legacy from his work in UCC, Leiden, MTU, Tindall Institute & CAPPA. He has laid the foundation for many others to continue his great work.

Hi Anton, I feel very lucky to have met you in my life and to have known your pure and deep heart.
For several months my routine in Cork was linked to your presence in a coffee break or in lab sessions and it's pretty rare to remember just funny and beautiful events linked to a person. I will bring forever your attitude in my life, behind the sentence "Not that shitty, yeah?" there was a big meaning...try to stay high and ambitious whatever happens and enjoying the pathway more than the final goal.
You will still complain about my way of calling probably one of the best Cork GAA players Patrick Hurgan (Huggy), that I called Johnny eh!
We will continue to remember You day by day, and directly or indirectly you will be an important support for us, especially during days that are not properly "very good very niceeee".
My deepest sympathy to the family.
— Davide
