Sincerest sympathies to Austin's family. I first met Austin when I worked in the Department of Transport on the aviation side. Following his early retirement a few of us ex Department colleagues would meet up for drinks and a chat every now and again. Many very enjoyable Friday evenings were spent in “the Library” updating Austin on what was happening in the Department, discussing politics and generally trying to put the world to rights.

I was always struck by Austin’s sincerity and how he bore his illness with dignity, never complaining. Sadly, given current circumstances I wasn’t able to pay my respects in person but Austin remains in my thoughts. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis

Very sad news about Austin.
I met him way back in my post office days in Merrion Row. He was always smiling and interested in what was going on around him.
He used to grill me about what the post office had to offer. He kept me on my toes and we always had a good laugh.
I moved on to the then Civil Service CU and who should pop up at my first AGM. There was Austin smiling away.
Now he grilled me on Credit Union business.
May he rest in peace. Bet hes up there in heaven – keeping an eye on things.
