Barbara was a great friend, a friendship started at Trinity Hall, and deepened with a trip to visit her in Ireland. Loyal, witty, interesting, lively and bubbly, she is a sad loss far too early. Love to all her family. RIP.

Barbara was a very strong hearted woman who fought fiercely against injustice especially false sex abuse allegations against innocent men. My family and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Barbara. She was an incredible, supportive, kind and thoughtful close friend. I first met Barbara on our first day at College over 40 years ago and we’ve remained firm friends ever since - one of the handful of our closest friends to come to our civil partnership in 2008. Witty, great company, passionate and fearless in her convictions, often contrarian, a lover of opera, theatre and good food, she was the sort of friend who you held close even when she surprised or baffled you with her views. It is terrible she has been taken from us at such a young age. Rest in peace.

Barbara is the lawyer I have most spoken about to people, particularly non-lawyers — and for good reason. She was an example to all lawyers. Straight talking; with integrity and fearless but after fearsome research and analysis. That she took this to the wider world in her perceptive writing and appearances. She's gone too soon.

Barbara, I remember meeting you in 2003 and I always enjoyed our conversations. I was privileged to have you as a panelist on a Battle of Ideas session on sentimentality in 2016. You were brave and principled, with a forensic grasp of detail and a willingness to use it where others feared to tread. I am so sorry you were taken so tragically early. Condolences to all who loved her and may you rest in peace.

Barbara was my flower girl bridesmaid at my marriage to Eryl on August 5 th 1967. Her mother Joan was my father’s sister and our families remained close. We admired and loved Barbara and will miss her . We send our sympathy and love to Caroline.

Barbara was courageous and principled and a shining example to all members of her profession. She was witty, warm and incisive and wonderful company. I shall miss enormously our leisurely lunches, and those who might have been her clients had she lived will be worse off for not having her as their warrior queen. Barbara was strong and principled to the end. Her death is a tragedy and despite what happened in her last years, almost everyone will remember only her intelligence, tenacity and talent as a barrister.

I am so sorry to hear of Barbara's death. She was inspirational - brave, principled, and intellectually fearsome. Her humour and passion will be sorely missed.

Over the last decade or so I would meet Barbara at conferences once or twice a year. I had immense respect for her and her bravery, standing up for her principles. She was a warm, compassionate person and will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Barbara.

Barbara was one of the bravest, and the best. An example to all of us who seek inspiration to stand firm when we know others oppose what we believe. Barbara was a Trustee, of British Pregnancy Advisory Service for the maximum term of 9 years, and will be sadly missed. I have posted an obituary at spiked-online. My deepest condolence to her family and friends and thanks to her hospice carers, who she praised highly.
