Ben, I am so sorry about your passing. Larger than life in many ways, you featured for decades as a major personality in Irish society and will be recorded in future history books.
You were loved and respected by many, and it is so unfair to family and friends you left while still so vibrant and young.

Ben, you put clothes on Irish people when they couldn’t afford the big brands, the 5.99 anoraks and cheap nylons. I still have my first SB’s roll aboard suitcase. Thank you for your enduring legacy to Ireland social fabric. Surviving the kidnapping, no wonder you took risks. Good to hear the family have reunited. You’re a legend and thank you.
— Irish ceo

Deepest condolences to the Dunne Family on the sad passing of Ben. He was a kind, honourable person who connected very easily with people and had a very down to earth attitude. You will be sadly missed by all, Ben, especially the people of Cork. Fly high with the angels.
— Eileen from Cork
Man of retail excellence, deal breaker, hard working, fair, just, respectful, mentor, passionate, resilient, generous with time & gifts, witty, charming, caring, emotional, compassionate & a samartian. His wisdom he gave freely to others. Spoke publicly of his life's mistakes so all could learn too. Probably had the best traits any person could ever have. Having been held hostage by the lRA in 1981 and later released in an Armagh graveyard & fearful for his life, Ben hid in a open grave for hours. It is no wonder Ben disliked attending funerals. It is so sad Ben is gone, but will never be forgotten. He must be polishing the halo God just awarded him. Condolences to Mary, Mark, Robert, Caroline and Nicholas, sisters & extended families on their sad loss. Rest in peace Ben. 🙏 🕯️💙
— Dublin 11 resident & Dunne Stores customer

I remember serving tea at a board meeting when I was 18 years old , I was so nervous. The only person in the room to thank me for the tea was Ben , he turned around and smiled and straight away I felt less nervous . The best portion of a good man’s life …. His little thoughtful unremembered acts of kindness and of love .
