To All Bernadette's Family.
I was very sad to hear of Bernadette's passing. I have had the pleasure of knowing Bernadette since 1969 when we both worked in Bolton Street. Our friendship continued through the years but even more so when we both retired in 2011. We spent many an enjoyable afternoon visiting the Botanic Gardens or chatting over a coffee at home. Bernadette was wonderful company, a great listener and a true friend. I will never forget her. May she rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to all Bernadettes family. I worked with Bernadette early 70s in Bolton Street and was so sad to read of her death. We exchanged Christmas cards every year since. Many the good chats and laughs we had. Rest in peace Bernadette.

So sorry to hear of Bernadette's passing. She is fondly remembered by my dad from her days in Bolton Street. I think as a result she had a soft spot for me when I started in Pembroke Street and I didn't get too much of her famous bight! A kind lady who will be remembered fondly.

To all Bernadette's family
I was so sorry that I was unable to attend Bernadette's funeral Mass, but I have just watched it online. I was touched by the final aria of Time to Say Goodbye. Bernadette loved good music I first met Bernadette about 10 to 12 years sitting around the table attending a Politics and Current Affairs programme in DATE Dundrum. We went out to lunch one day and thereafter we shared trips to the cinema, opera, theatre and concert hall. But the most precious parts of our friendship was when we shared a meal in my home and talked about life in general. And we had many meals and chats. She was a wonderful friend and her illness and death have left an emply space in my heart. She was interested in everyone and a great listener and I loved her company. May she rest in peace .
— Helen Connolly

I was so saddened to hear of Bernadette’s passing. I worked closely with for 10 years and for most of that time she was my personal secretary. Bernadette was a tower of strength and a most loyal and dedicated member of staff in DIT. She always said that it was her job to protect the president and she was as good as her word! Behind this hard facade was a gentle soul and it was always a pleasure to meet her. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend the funeral as I’m not in Ireland at the moment. May she rest in peace.
— Brendan Goldsmith
I was very sorry to hear of the death of Bernadette. She was an excellent colleague during the years we both worked in the DIT central office. And always good company with a genuine concern for the welfare of all staff and students. May she rest in peace

I am so sorry to hear of Bernadette's passing, may she rest in peace. I wish to echo the sentiments expressed by ex DIT colleagues. Despite a feigned tough exterior, Bernadette was very kind & great fun. She was hugely dedicated to her job and fiercely protective of the late Michael O'Donnell & DIT Presidents. My deepest sympathies to her family in their great loss.
— Phil Kenna, ex DIT
I was saddened to hear that Bernadette had passed. Bernadette terrified everyone on first encounter including me. Then when she got to know me and I got to know her she was a generous, kind person who had a great sense of humour. We had great chats and laughs when we shared an office in Pembroke St and Aungier St. May she rest in peace.
— Louise Dunphy
Deepest sympathy to Moira,Pat and families on the death of Bernadette,RIP. Reading the tributes I regret that our paths mainly crossed as children. Memories come flooding back. I remember being in Portrane at Hannah's hut when I had the temerity to pull a chair from under Bernadette. I survived but just! Thinking about you all at this sad time.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Bernadette. I first met Bernadette in the year 2000 after I joined DIT when she was working in the President's office in Fitzwilliam House. She was such a personality and we had a lot of funny exchanges. After her retirement I met Bernadette on a flight to Dubai - she was sitting behind me. What a coincidence. May Bernadette rest in peace now.

I was saddened to hear of Bernadette’s passing. I first encountered the inimitable Bernadette in Bolton St. and then she joined myself and Michael O’Donnell as the first staff in Heritage House when DIT came into being in January 1993, before we re-located to Pembroke St. She was a tenacious, loyal and persuasive colleague. To her family and friends, please accept my sincere condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. May she rest in peace.

To all of the Bridgman and Davis families - I am so sorry to hear of Bernadette’s passing. To all Bernadette's family. I was so sorry to hear of Bernadette's passing. When I started working on reception in Pembroke St., Bernadette presented herself as a formidable force, but I knew from the outset that she was merely testing me. I could see beneath the tough exterior that she was in fact a lovely, kind person with a wicked sense of humour. She was as they say, old stock, who commanded respect and she got it. She gave one hundred per cent to her role as assistant to the President, whom she guarded with all her might. She struck up a great friendship with the late Phyllis, our tea lady. They were Ying and Yang for sure. I hope and know Bernadette is happy now, no more suffering. RIP Bernadette.

Hi all, so sorry to learn of Bernadette's passing. I have really fond and funny memories of her and our chats in Fitzwilliam House when I was working on the DIT Retention Project. Like John below, I think at first many were terrified of her - she was so feisty and she could be winding you up but keeping such a straight face that you wouldn't know it! But there was a soft inner core and a sincerity and authenticity that she shared readily with all those that got to know her. She loved her travelling, and now she's on another trip. I don't know if there's an afterlife, but if there is I am looking forward to meeting her again. I am sorry to learn that she was so ill, and have no doubt that the love and support of family and friends carried her through, in comfort, to the end. Sincere condolences to you all.
— Jill Barrett
