I send my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of dear Brian Hutton, having passed too young, and he had been a wonderful supporter in Harold's Cross and Kimmage and dealing with significant issues in journalism. It has been a very sad loss.

Heartfelt sympathies to Brian's family from all the staff at the National Archives.

Brian was a regular reader and longtime attendee at the annual NA media preview, covering the release of State Papers. He was a great favourite with all our staff down through the years, always cheerful and in good humour, as he worked his way relentlessly through mountains of files. He will be deeply missed by all of us who knew him in the National Archives. May he rest in peace.
— Helen Hewson, National Archives
Sorry I got lost on the way to the cemetery and didn't get a chance to pay my respects to Brian's family. Brian stayed with me while he was working in Dublin at the National Archives before Christmas and I will treasure the week of late-night conversations we had after a gap of not seeing each other for over two years. He was a good friend and, as was clear from his funeral mass, will be missed dearly by many.
Sincere sympathy to Brian's family on behalf of all the journalists who covered the release of the State Papers in December who were shocked to learn of his death and the loss of a much loved and much respected colleague. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis
— Seán McCárthaigh

I knew Brian through my brother Ed and more closely through all the work Brian did for the Harold's Cross community.
A gentleman through and through. He always made time for others and those around him. He was a huge support to our Pop-Up Gaeltachtaí and made every effort to use Gaeilge with me at any opportunity. We shared laughs and chats anytime we spoke. He also helped to promote the work of the boys and girls in Harold's Cross NS. For which I was very grateful. His death comes as a shock and a huge loss. Thinking of him and all the family at this time. He was a fine man, one of the best. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam agus suaimhneas síoraí air.
— Peadar Carty

Dear Eileen, Damien, Kevin, Sean, Mairead and Issy, I am so very sorry for your intense loss. I knew Brian right from his beginning and throughout the years have had the pleasure of crossing paths with him through our mutual family connections. I second all the lovely, heartfelt comments made by his wide circle of friends and family, over this past week. The message from the photo journalist, Niall Carson, stands out, and I quote, in part, "anyone who knew Brian was enriched by his company". It is evident that he was well respected and well loved. Although his life was a short one, I hope that you will find comfort in the significance of his impact and influence, and in knowing that his was a fully lived life.
