Sincere sympathy to the Smee and Kennedy families on the passing of Bridie may her gentle soul rest in peace
— Michael and Margaret Corcoran The Heath Thurles
Sad to hear of Bridie's passing. We have lots of memories of her over her many, many years. A powerful woman, with or without the bicycle. A great one to be beside at a party, to slip a young lad few bob, or for the inside track on a match.
Gone but not forgotten for sure.

My deepest condolences to all of Mrs Smee's family and friends.

She was such a wonderful neighbour to us in Abbey Road. I have so many memories from my childhood with Mrs Smee, my grand aunt Peg Maher, Mrs Hayes and Mrs Stieglitz. I found a picture of Peg and Mrs Smee only recently and was trying to enquire as to when and where it was taken.

May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Memories revisited and relived

The news of the sad loss to the Smee and Kennedy family rekindle so many kindnesses. Heading over to Peg Mahers for treats for Sat night and being accompanied up to the light at the end of Ardnacroise for fear of the dark. The days throwing in turf to the shed in the yard being reassured how good I was at turf-man-ship. Never really believing I was that good but it was such a kind thing to exaggerate to boost a young lad. Piking hay in the hay barn when Bridie and Martin threw up the hay while armed with hay fork the job was to compact the bench. The special memories of sunny days, bringing home hay on the horse drawn cart … the winching up the hay cocks on that cart and waiting for that click which secured the cock on the cart and meant we were back to town. The smell of freshly baked ‘currnie’ cake salvaged from the bastible near the open fire, with lashings of butter and jam and Bridie making sure you had enough.
These and lots of other memories live long in my heart, most especially the thoughtful, kindness that was the regular experience of a small boy, continuing to warm the heart of an older boy.

Bridie Smee as I always knew her, rest now in heavenly peace, thank you for all the happy childhood memories, at the open hearth fire of warmth and welcome. From the limekiln to the quarry, from the haggard to the meadow in the Heath, from the dairy to the orchard,to Stevie guiding Moll drawing in the trams of hay,the rocking chair in the parlour and the pint measure hanging on the bucket of milk under the kitchen window for all who called for milk.Oh so many memories, friendship for all the cousins who called,a familiar presence with the bicycle up and down over the bridge. The last of the old stock from the thatched house that was a land mark in it's day.United now with Martin, your parents Ann and Stevie, an eternal reunion in the company of the blessed, at home and at peace. Sympathy to all Bridies cousins,to all the staff at the Community Hospital for their care and kindness to Bridie. In prayer and friendship let us carry her in our hearts.Sincerely, your dear friend and neighbour, fr Conor 🙏.
