His unfailing commitment to duty as a Marist Brother and his selflessness to all who came in contact with him, made him very special. He was a great person with such a love of his family, education, GAA football & hurling (especially Galway), gardening, photography and life in general. Sorry to hear of the death of Bro. Gerard May he rest in peace. I only got to know of him when he was doing the Cahill tree. Many a chat we had at night finding out where all the relatives were buried. His father and my grandfather were brothers but he did not know of my father's existence
he did know of his two sisters. Lovely man the mass was a lovely tribute to him.

I was lucky enough to spend much of my childhood in the company of Bro. Gerard. He had an innate ability to speak to people of all walks of life and of all ages. I remember him fondly as I think of the many hours he spent gardening with me and my siblings while he chatted with us. One particularly special memory is of the time he planted a beech tree for me around the time of my birthday. He made a lasting impact on my own, my family’s, and the lives of many.
