I first met Fr Owen at my mother’s church, the old St John Bosco in Wigston, where I was married. My mum and I were in the procession led by Fr Owen from there to the new church on Pasley Road, praying and singing hymns – an amazing experience and an amazing man. I have never met another man who epitomised so well what most people want in a priest. He had warmth, humour, wisdom, understanding and he treated everyone as special. We will miss him so much and offer sympathy to his family. May he Rest in Peace.

Sincere condolences to all the O’Neill family. We have had the pleasure of knowing Fr. Owen since 1965 when he first arrived in our parish of St. Anne’s Radcliffe on Trent. He would visit us every Sunday evening and when over in Ireland we also had the opportunity to visit his family in Tipperary. We continued to stay in contact with Fr. Owen and we would always look forward to catching up together. Fr. Owen was the embodiment of what a priest should be and was a great friend to the whole family. He will be forever in our thoughts and prayers, may he rest in peace.

I (Eleanor ) first came to Fr Owen in 2011, when I wished to be confirmed in the Catholic Church, having been baptised a Methodist. Father was always welcoming to my mother and me, greeting us at weekly Mass with a warmth and kindness that I will always remember. He helped me through many difficult times in my life, always being kind enough to listen and offer his support. When I first met my husband Joe, Father was also very loving and welcoming to him, making at home whenever we returned to Our Lady's.

We will always remember him in our thoughts and prayers with great love and fondness.

My sincere condolences to all of Father Owen's family. A wonderful, warm and caring man. He knew just what to say to you when you went to him with a problem. I returned to practicing my Catholic faith because of Fr Owen. After a long absence from the Church, and a number of personal problems, a colleague encouraged me to talk to him, and to this day I will never forget his beautiful, kind words of encouragement and compassion. From that day on, (over 16 years ago now), I became a devoted member of his parish. A truly inspirational priest, he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace dear Father.
