I was absolutely shocked and saddened to learn of Carmel's death. She was a wonderful person. I first met Carmel when she came to San Francisco and we spent many happy occasions together when she lived here. We kept in touch when she moved back to Ireland but had not seen each other since then. She was extremely kind to me when my husband was ill and when he died almost 4 years ago. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to her son, Jamie, and offer my deepest condolences to him and to her other family members. She will never be forgotten. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
— Ronat O'Neill
I was shocked to hear of Carmel's bereavement. I was so lucky to have attended many of Carmel's mindfulness classes; she directed me on my mindfulness journey and supported me in the completion of a teaching qualification in Mindfulness for which I will be ever grateful and I will never forget her. She was a truly inspirational, kind, lovely woman and she'll always remain in my thoughts, particularly on my mindfulness journey. Rest In Peace Carmel, sympathy to Jamie and all Carmel's friends and family.
— Karen McKee

I am still processing the loss of this wonderful friend. I met Carmel when she first moved back to Galway and we became fast friends, involved in meditation and our connection and love for India. We found other compatible interests in healing, the outdoors, loving our sons and seeking a life that offers service and simplicity to others. While my moving back to States in 2005 negated a continued as close relationship as before, we stayed in touch, thanks to technology, and I felt our continued bond each and every time I returned regularly to Galway for a visit. I am grateful that I was able to meet up with her on my last visit this past June. My condolences to Jamie and her family. May she rest in peace.
— Kate Soudant
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Carmel’s untimely passing. I first met Carmel in Age Action Galway where she was Manager from Jan 2004 to Oct 2009 and I was an elderly member. She was a wonderful kind and graceful lady with the most beautiful, clever and inventive mind. Her sense of calm and easiness has always stayed with me. My sincere sympathy to Jamie, and Carmel’s siblings on her death. May her kind and gentle soul rest in peace.
— Rita Coll
Words cannot express the deep sadness I felt when you passed Carmel. With you in mind, there is one word that echoes through every cell of my being: ‘GRATITUDE’. The many years we spent in CA bonding, laughing heartedly and joyously from deep within our bellies, also finding the strength to learn from and move past our traumas. Your friendship meant so very much to me then and now. Your words brought comfort, peace, and solace to my spirit.
Carmeleen, if heaven was a state of mind, it found a place within yours. ‘Your profound wisdom was set on the things above.’ Your heart brimming with love and the rigorous discipline it took for you to go that extra mile, yet you gracefully and lovingly danced along that path with a gentle, caring, kind presence gifting a little of heaven to all you touched. I still see those green eyes sprightly dancing, casting a glow that emanated from within, loving and protecting your friends, family, acquaintances, and the vast audience that read your books or attended your mindfulness classes. Rereading and cherishing every word you texted me during our final years of communication. Unaware of the chronic pain consuming you. These words you sent me speak volumes to the selfless heroine that graced our presence.
‘We had great laughs together…… a sense of humor is a great thing to have. I love laughter, so let’s create it for each other.’
Jamie, your mom spoke so highly and lovingly of you always. I wish for you the very best that life offers.
— Carmel Finnerty

I still cant believe it this has happened and you are no more here. I lived in the house for over an year, if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have got a house to stay. You were like a mother to us far away. We had so much memories, chit chats. I still remember we even celebrated Diwali together. We had food together. Will miss you and would cherish each and every memory we made along the way. Rest in peace Carmel.
— Yatin Arora
This is very shocking news! We lived in her house for a year, she was like a mother to us. Guided and encouraged us in many ways. She had very special attachment with India and enjoyed Indian food that we cooked. We were supposed to meet for a tea party, guess that will be left undone forever!
May her soul rest in peace.

Dear Carmel,

Deeply shocked and very deeply saddened that you are no longer with us. You were a very bright light in a sometimes dark world. I am so infinitely grateful to have met you and I will forever keep you and all your words of wisdom in my heart. Thank you for your presence, grace, kindness, compassion and not forgetting your quick witted sense of humour also. You have helped shape who I am today and I doubt I will ever meet someone quite as special as you in this lifetime again. You were an earth angel. I will also miss you terribly.
Thank you Carmel and I know you are flying high with the angels now.

To Carmels family and friends, my deepest and heartfelt sympathies. A huge loss. Will keep Carmel in my thoughts and prayers always. She did so much good in this world and her legacy will live on in all those that she has helped and whose lives she has touched in so many ways. Rest in Peace Carmel.
