Most people have already summed up what I would like to say about Carmel, especially Philip O’Mahony, who, like myself, was in the NYC Junior Section right from the start. My father, Don Douglas, was one of the founders and when Carmel arrived on the scene and became involved she added a different dimension and dynamic to the whole operation. She threw herself into everything with great gusto and subsequently the Junior Section, Dublin Bay Sailing and Irish sailing all benefitted from all her enthusiasm and dedication. She and Don were very good friends and I know that she was greatly affected by his untimely death. Carmel and my mother, Pat Douglas, remained friends to this day and she joins with me in sending our deepest sympathy to Paul, Lucy, Adam and their families and in particular to Olive, her sister. We will all miss Carmel’s joie de vivre.
— Jean Douglas
There are times in our life when we are privileged to meet and experience the friendship and kindness of very special people. Carmel was one of these people. It was a great pleasure to have known such a wonderful lady.
— Padraig and Ruth McCarthy
Dear Paul, Lucy & Adam,

There are so many words to describe your mother...vivacious, ebullient, kind hearted, generous...a woman with a wicked sense of humour. I could go on. I have known your mother since I was in short (sailing) trousers when the Junior Section of the NYC was established and of course have had many chats and much banter with her over the 55 years or so since then. She has met my wife, son and daughter during that period and took them all to heart. Although she knew so many people my most endearing memory of her will be that when we met and spoke she was always able to convey the impression that you were the only person that mattered to her.

Gillian, Richard and Sabrina join with me in sending you our condolences on your sad loss. The Dublin Bay Sailing Community has lost a true legend.
— Philip Mahony
To Paul Lucy & Adam
So sorry to hear of Carmel's death she was a great character and the Dunlaoghaire sailing community will be lost without her enduring presence.
— Diana & Philip Ferguson
I have only just learned of Carmel's final passage from this world of sailing to her new heavenly waters where she will keep many boats afloat and sailing well. What a wonderful lady who did so much for sailing in Dunlaoghaire and around the country. She was always joyful, supportive and helpful in every way with a lovely sense of humour which could be bold and very entertaining at times. A tireless apostle to our sport of sailing and delivered in a most modest and friendly manner. I always enjoyed meeting her and she was such an encouraging and positive person, who had a solution for all challenges put before her. May she rest in peace on heavenly waters.

Carmel brought joy and laughter everywhere she went. I have so many great memories from first days of NYC junior section through optimist derby's and decades of table quiz's, weddings and funerals, regattas to mention a few. Carmel's welcome for her water babies on finishing D2D in 1995 will remain with us forever. I hope Paul, Lucy & Adam take comfort from all of the genuine feelings of love for a truly great Lady who had such a positive influence on the waterfront.

Deepest sympathy to all the extended Winklemann Family on the sad loss of Carmel after a long and well lived full life . The Waterfront will certainly be different without her wonderful unique personality . I remember her from over half a century ago when I was crewing on my late father's [ Frank Ryan ] Dublin Bay 21 , Estelle . Carmel could summarise a sticky situation with an appropriate brief humorous choice of words . Farewell to a Lovely Lady of the utmost Integrity . May Carmel now reunited with Franz , Rest in Peace , in the sunset with a gentle following breeze . Sincerely , Muriel & Ken Ryan [ NYC ] .
