I am very sad to hear of Charles's sudden passing . My sincere condolences to you Noreen and all your family.

My first real contact with Charles was in 1980 when I crashed my Lilly rental car. Only 3 months into my job, I had to very nervously explain to him what had happened. He put his arm around me , made sure I was well after the event and immediately put me at ease . This was a great illustration of his caring character. He was key in those early years to getting the site on the road to its ongoing success.
Years later I recall as we did the business plan Charles disclosed that he had some money put aside 'just in case' . But : Where had he hidden it ? - Nobody had noticed a category in our financial plan called 'Marine Insurance' - of course this was his 'rainy day fund' and I couldn't have thought of a better name to choose. In hindsight it was a lovely reflection of his sense of fun (and prudence! ) as he dealt with life.

Its many decades since our paths have crossed but I do look back on that period and our relationship with great fondness. He will be missed by many and of course by his dear family.

Ar dheis de go raibh a anam,

Eamon

Deeply saddened to hear the news of Charlie's passing. Sincere condolences to Noreen, Marianne and James on the passing of their beloved husband and dad. The Scanlan family were our next door neighbours for a number of years in Ballincollig and they are such a lovely family. Charlie was a thorough gentleman then and it is obvious from the many tributes now being paid to him that he never changed in that respect. To you Noreen, Molly and I send our deepest sympathies, ye were such a lovely friendly couple. To Marianne and James, be proud that that you had such a lovely dad, keep him in your heart and thoughts and he will always be with you. We will pray for all of you (including the extended Scanlan and Walsh families) during the difficult weeks ahead. May Charlie's gentle soul Rest In Peace.

Charles was a thorough gentleman with a brilliant business and financial brain. He was one of the first Irish employees to join Lilly Kinsale in 1979 and he achieved so much for the company through his financial acumen, going on to become a Senior Finance Director for Lilly. Charles was well respected and highly thought of by Lilly worldwide as well as by his peers within Ireland. When he retired he left a very impressive legacy,he achieved so much through his determination to help streamline the various business and financial processes. He was a great friend work colleague and mentor to me personally. We kept in regular contact after Charles retired,he had a wonderful sense of humour. You could always depend on Charles for sound advice. Thank you for all of the great memories friendship and words of wisdom Charles. May you Rest In Eternal Peace now. Denis.
