Clare was a role model as a Councillor ... communicative, inclusive and vivacious. She mentored and supported young people who showed an interest in public life. I know of one young man who got the opportunity to represent Ireland on an international stage as a result of Claire's support and mentoring. She had a megawatt smile and a brain equally as brilliant. She was so enthusiastic about everything to do with her beloved Cork Harbour. She was a prime mover in the great celebrations of Cobh heritage including the Titanic, Lusitania and Easter Rising centenaries. In recent times she had acted as Deputy Mayor of Cork County Council where she excelled in the protocol and public speaking characteristics required of such a prestigious role. A bright star has dipped below the horizon out by Roche's Point. Liam Kenny, Director, Association of Irish Local Government.

I met Clare at a book launch at Cork Archives on December 1, less than two weeks ago where she spoke wonderfully without notes in her role as Deputy County Mayor. She was very impressive and looked the picture of good health. Her sudden death is a great shock. She willl be very much missed but she stands as an enduring model to women and men on what can be achieved by one person who works hard enough. Very sad.

Be free, be strong, be proud of who you have been.
Know that you will be mourned and missed, that no one can replace
you, that you have loved and are beloved.
Move beyond form, flowing like water, feeding on sunlight and
moonlight, radiant as the stars in the night sky.
Pass the gates, enter the dark without fear, returning to the womb of
life to steep in the cauldron of rebirth.
Rest, heal, grow young again.
Be blessed.
(Poem by Starhawk)
