Like many, I am distraught.. Neil was one of the "good ones" of a world where that phrase is becoming a rarity.
Quick of wit yet decidedly reserved to judge, his ability to weigh the overall situation taught me valuable lessons that I will be forever grateful for.
I will miss his comradeship and friendship for the rest of my days.
Whatever the afterlife looks like, I hope we meet again, hopefully there's a curry to be had there..
Rest in peace Neil.
— Richard Scott
Very sad to hear of Neil's passing, my sympathies to all his family.
His quiet humour will be sadly missed, he was a great dinner companion and friend for many years.
— Steve Carr
Heartfelt condolences to Gerald and family in Ireland on the sudden passing of his brother Neil.

I first met Neil on a technology project in Amsterdam some 20 years ago, he was a good and kind friend.

My abiding memory of Neil will be his great sense of humour alongside his down to earth practicality and strong work ethic.
Knowing his humour I suspect he will be looking down having a chuckle or two every now and then when he spots some humour of a situation we find ourselves in in our lives!

He will be sorely missed, may he rest in peace.

Rob Wickes, London.

So sad, and shocked, to hear that Neil is no longer with us. I remember Neil's first day at the BBC at Henry Wood House, London, and enjoyed working together on numerous radio transmission projects, including many months in Cyprus, enhancing the World Service. Neil had a quiet but thoughtful demeanour, and was truly likable. A real loss to us all.

My sincerest condolences to you on the sad passing of Neil. He and I first met when starting work over 30 years ago, and although our careers took us in separate directions a few years later, we managed to catch up every year, even if only for a phone call. It was a treat to hear his gentle voice deliver the trademark tales, observations on life, and recommendations for interesting books to read. I feel honoured to have known him as a work colleague and most importantly as a friend. RIP Neil
