“We don’t know what is going to happen, or how, or when, and that very uncertainty is the space of hope.”
“Resistance is first of all a matter of principle and a way to live, to make yourself one small republic of unconquered spirit. You hope for results, but you don't depend on them. You let go of the need for some final outcome or reassurance.”
― Rebecca Solnit, from Hope in the Dark: Untold Histories, Wild Possibilities

“Utopia is on the horizon. I move two steps closer; it moves two steps further away. I walk another ten steps and the horizon runs ten steps further away. As much as I may walk, I'll never reach it. So what's the point of utopia? The point is this: to keep walking.”
- Eduardo Galeano

Friendship, relationship with Cristín, memory of Cristín [for me] is one of loyalty and dialogue. Her loyalty, fun and understanding as a friend. Certainly not passive. Dialogue with Cristín being constant yet shifting, not static, considering questions of knowledge and power, and how to practice democratic engagement on these (not least in the philosophy, politics, and practice of education). Engaging with Cristín [for me] is more than the boundaries of her/our physical bodies, as much as her physical body is and will be sorely missed. It is more than her achievements, or the undoubted pragmatism Cristín displayed. Her concepts, her curiosity, her morality, her imaginary came before her and will continue in her/our way as relational beings..."to keep walking".
— Ann Fitzpatrick
