Sincere condolences on the passing of David. He took such great care of my son on 3 separate surgeries in Crumlin. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
— Ann O'Connor
Sincere condolences to Derry, Donough, Sara and the O’Donovan family on the sad and untimely death of David.
We have known David for many years, initially through the plastic surgery connection where Tom worked with him in OLHC and then through Nyumbani, where he volunteered in 2009 with all the ‘gal pals’ with whom he was a big hit’ Ever the gentleman David went to the bar on return to the Parkside villa each evening to allow the red earthed ladies access to the sparse water, invariably they returned downbeat having found that once again there was no water whereby David shared his wet wipes and got them a drink.
When in Nyumbani a cute little girl Lydia took a shine to him, He was extremely generous to her, sending her gifts & letters. Lydia has grown up to to be a very well-adjusted young lady thanks to the support of David which allowed her to finish her education.
Our family spent an amazing few days on Lamu island with David where he went to meet his cousin, Knut, who was doing an internship in Kenya.
We walked for miles on the deserted beaches and to remote island villages. At some stage we noticed that we were being followed at a distance but David reassured us that his hotel the ‘Pepponi” insisted on having their security always follow him, they recognised their valuable cargo!
David was a great guy always in good humour and a pleasure to meet, chat and spend time with
He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends

— Margaret Begley
I was deeply sorry and shocked to hear of David’s passing, I didn’t know what to write for the last couple of weeks and I still don’t really know but I didn’t want to write nothing. My son was 9 when I brought him to David who ended up having to do two surgeries on his face. It wasn’t easy walking my child down to theatre but it was made somewhat easier knowing that we had the best of the best working on him. I later became his patient and felt privileged to have been under his care. He had the most beautiful calming disposition. He always spoke honestly with a kick of humour added in. He was a ridiculously talented, humble human. Such a huge loss to those who need his precise hands to change their lives as he did ours. I send my most sincere sympathy to David’s family, friends and work colleagues. Also to his work wives, Val & Ciara - I’m so incredibly sorry for the loss of your friend. Talented, busy, precise hands now resting in eternal peace.
— Alison Behan

I was a patient of David's in the past and can only speak very highly of him. He was a true professional in his field, and an absolute gent. A very personable guy. Our conversations during my appointments meant a lot to me as it was a tough time for me personally and David would not only give me medical advice, but also would often give me life advice in relation to work and what not! I remember meeting David in the car park of St. James' hospital, years after I was discharged from his care and he still remembered who I was and we had a great chat once again.

Rest in peace David. My condolences to all his family and friends.
