Its great to see the love and affection for Dinny in the many tributes that have been paid and hopefully they will offer comfort and support to Anne and all his children in the days ahead.

There is little that has not been said but as his eldest nephew could I pay tribute to some memories of Dinny that stand out for me . Dinny took on the responsibility of running the farm with his mother from an early age due to the death of his father. As result of that he effectively spent his entire life in his native heath and what a full life he had! In each decade whether it was farming, sport, the Church (including the graveyard) or community life Dinny’s name resonated.

Dinny was very conscious of family history. On one occasion when he was in his ninetees I told a visitor that Dinny’s uncle ,who was buried in the graveyard, died in 1893.Dinny leaned over to remind me “the third of April” .
Dinny often mentioned that he went to mass on Sunday at a very early age and added that he went every Sunday since (until his health no longer allowed). He had a deep Faith and had no fear when his earthly life was coming to an end ,.People often say “Ní fheicimid a leitheád arís” .In Dinny’s case it is absolutely true. The words on his mothers headstone apply also to my dear Uncle Dinny, whom we will truly miss.
Suaimhneas na bhFlaitheas dá anam.
