I was greatly saddened by the news of Denis’s death. I will miss seeing him on his bicycle around Rathfarnham and especially our chats when he called in. I can wholeheartedly endorse the many comments that he was a man of integrity and always stood out for what was right – and was even very fair-minded on hurling matters involving Cork and Kilkenny. As a work colleague I was impressed by his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to help many of his colleagues with statistics and data analysis. He carried the can for Genetics and Animal Breeding in Ireland for many years but he can rest easy in that the issue is in good hands due to the roles now played by his graduate students.
Finally I want to extend our sincere sympathies to Judith , Brian , Sean , Martin & Julie & all the Kelleher family on the sad passing of Denis. May his gentle soul rest in peace .

Dear Judith and family. So sorry to hear of Denis's sad passing. In truth, he was a fantastic supervisor, mentor, friend for almost 30 years. He was the reason that I got my PhD, ended up in Cork (he couldn't ever hide his family ties in this regard!) and am now happily settled here with my work and family. He was the start of change in cattle breeding in Ireland; by helping develop a stream of young people to go into research and industry. Of course he denied that (in his ever humble and understated way). But we all knew it. And we will be forever thankful to him for the help and support that he gave us all. We will miss him terribly. I know I will especially. With love. Andrew, Clare & family.
