I was lucky enough to play football with Derek (or Del as he was known to us) and Irwin during the last few years of Boca Snrs down in St. Anne's park. It's absolutely my privilege to say but this was the type of football experience I always wanted and really enjoyed going out and playing with a good bunch of lads and good laughs. I'll never forget that amazing AFL Cup run to the semis in the Oscar Traynor. Never thought I'd make it there. Though the less said about the early AM Sunday kick offs, tough half time talks or the post-match debates in Harry’s the better 😉

Not only that but when my own wedding came around Del very kindly did up the invitations for me and couldn’t have been happier with them. Total gent of a man and definitely gone too soon. Condolences to the Savage family at this difficult time.
— James Moran
