My sincere condolences to Jane, family and friends. I had heard a lot of great things about Dermot, and finally had the pleasure to spend a few hours with him at my friend Nancys home in Dec 2019 in Nashua New Hampshire, USA.
He was such a warm kind person, living up to the persona I had heard about. Reading the many condolences here, I feel like I have gotten to know him on another level, thank you. Peace to all. Bob Sliwa Peterborough NH.

On behalf of all in Scoil Mhuire Tallow I would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the Blount family on Dermot's passing. To say the children loved Dermot's visits would be an understatement in the extreme. His gentle, caring and empathetic nature shone through as he had a great way of encouraging the reluctant cyclists and in no time they were enjoying the classes along with all the other children. In the staff room it was always great to be in Dermot's company, as he would entertain us all with stories from his many trips cycling and kayaking near and far. One of life's true gentlemen, Dermot will be greatly missed and we keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Deepest sympathy to Jane and her family on the sad and unexpected loss of Dermot. Dermot was a good colleague in The Munster Express, whose eyes lit up whenever he spoke about cycling and kayaking. He clearly lived life to the full and had a good perspective on the bigger picture. That he spent so much of his life looking forward to the next adventure said so much about Dermot. I'm so sorry that he didn't get to enjoy so many more. RIP, Der.
— Dermot Keyes
To Jane & the Blount family, Dermot was an inspiration to live large in every way ... I have fond memories of cycling around Ireland with him with my family and then getting to meet again years later on Easter - an afternoon cycle with him & Jane. Dear Jane, Máire, Dara, and Tom, I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful Dermot. He was such a lovely friend and I will miss him terribly. He made our trips to Ireland such a magical adventure. Cycling around Waterford Co., exploring the Copper Coast, staying at your chalet, listening to music in local pubs, and meeting your families, you both made us feel like we were at home. I am so grateful that you and Dermot were able to come visit us in New Hampshire on your trip last year. He entertained us all with his stories and songs and made many new friends in Nashua as well as in Jackson.
His memory will always live in our hearts.

My heartfelt condolences to Jane, Máire, Dara, Tom and the wider Blount and O'Brien families on the sad loss of Dermot, who I worked with for many years at The Munster Express.

Der was a lovely colleague and friend, who warmly welcomed me into The Munster ‘family’ from my first day and was always on hand to offer help and guidance when it was needed. The day was always brighter for having Der belt through it, you could count on him to bring a bit of craic and divilment to any occasion. Treasured memories.

Go néirí an bóthar leat, Der.

I'm very saddened to hear this morning of Dermots passing. I circumnavigated Ireland on a Stand Up Paddle Board in 2014 and happened to meet Dermot and his friend whilst crossing Tramore Bay. Ironically I met him pretty much in the same location that he met Brian Wilson another Circumnavigator back in 1990. I read about Dermot and Brians meeting in Tramore and it was a great surprise to be meeting Dermot in this exact location also.. A few weeks ago I contacted Dermot for a chat as I'm putting a book together about my circumnavigation and wanted to put in a bit about him. The call went on for quite some time and I got what I'm sure was only a fraction of his life story ! Dermot was a truely inspirational Man. Having read about him many years ago in Brian Wilsons book Dances With Waves - I can say with my hand on my heart that meeting Dermot in the random manner that I did that day in Tramore Bay in that same location that he met Brian Wilson back in 1990, was one of the highlights of my trip.

I'd like to express my sincerest condolences to Dermot's family and friends. May his Gentle Soul Rest In Peace
