Dermot was a great sheep & cattle farmer. He took great pride in rearing his sheep & lambs. He might have been up lambing all night but would still make it to school in the morning. If we were in trouble calving a cow we could call on Dermot day or night. He was a great neighbour to us. Dermot will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and neighbours. May Dermot rest in peace.

Dermot was such a brilliant support to not alone all the children that he helped and taught, but also to all his past pupils, no matter how long previous they had left Scoil an Athar Tadgh. Dermot was great company and was warmth, chat and good humour personified. When I think of Carrig I think of Dermot and all he gave to the school and the area. We often shared a sideline together in Sciath na Scol and his teams were an extension of himself- full of passion, very well coached and motivated and very sporting. A great loss to his family, his community and to his many friends. Gan dabht-Nì bheidh a leithead arìs ann!

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to all Dermot’s family. I have been living in Germany for the past eighteen years and I got to know Dermot through his engagement with the parish sports days. He was such an inspiring person to work with especially when I was only starting out in my teaching career. No mountain was too high to climb and everything he did, he did with humour and generosity. He was such a kind and caring man and I am so saddened to hear of his untimely death. I feel privileged to have worked with him . May he test in peace.

I very sorry to hear of the passing of Dermot. I've known him since our time in Farranferris overlapped. As a first or second year it was a real honour to have a senior acknowledge you. Dermot did more, he spoke to us and listened. He hadn't even done his Leaving Cert and he was already a great teacher in the making. He will be a great loss to the community of Carrignabhfear My sincere condolences to Theresa, Diarmuid and Grace.
