Eithne, I was saddened to hear.of Des passing on. He was a great colleague in the Brewery. Really enjoyed his company. We shared mant interests. He loved his music, was compassionate by nature and
Was good to be with. Never afraid to ask the hard questions. I had a long conversation with him in the Medical carpark about two years back..

It was with extreme sadness that we got the call from Eithne to say that Des was no longer with us. Himself and Eithne have not just been Guinness/Diageo work mates but great friends for so many years and have we great memories of the sporting and holidays days going back to the groups of us on the Emerald Star boats on Lough Derg. Des loves the fun live has to offer, and ill health never stopped him from extraction the most out of it. A true gentleman, with his Colfer sense of humour and love of the sporting life, he will be very much miss by so many of us who had the luck to encounter him. He will enjoy the sporting analogy... his innings is over, and he was bowled out for 70! Our love and sympathy to Eithne, Ailish and Claire and all the Colfer and Ward family. Maria, Alan, Sarah and Louisa Loomes.
— The Loomes Family, Dollymount.
Deepest condolences to all the family may des rip 🙏

My sincere condolences to the Colfer family on the sad news of Des’s passing. Meeting the family last evening brought back so many fond memories of the times we all shared together growing up in the Navan Road area back in the 60’s. A different era and innocent times but a great community of likeminded people who looked out for one another. Sadly with Des's passing we have lost another of our generation. May he rest in peace.
— Jim Nolan formally of Nephin Road
I am deeply saddened by the death of Des. Des and I worked together in the Barley Lab in the seventies. Although younger than I he was a friend and confident of mine at a pivotal time of my career at Guinness. He was an antidote to the ignorance I endured at that time. We kept in contact even when I departed Guinness. We were exchanging on Facebook until health intervened.
He was a brilliant and knowledgeable man. I offer my sincere condolences to Eithne and family. May Des rest in peace.
