Dear Felicia,

My deepest condolences to you and the boys on the loss of Des.

Des and I ran Cross-country together at Villanova University (or, I should say, I ran well behind him). In those days he was an extraordinarily talented runner, a great wit and a true cut-up. I've heard rumors that, over the years, he actually matured into quite a distinguished gentleman. That must have been your influence.

In any case, Des remains as much a legend at Villanova as he is in Ireland.

Though we are all bereft at his passing, we are the richer for having known him.

RIP, Des.

Dear McCormack Family,
I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of Des. He had an infectious smile, a razor wit and the ability to draw you into a story like no one else. I am sure he already has a golf game going and is still explaining Stableford scoring with a ready set of "extra cards" for the uninitiated.
My daughter, Reghan, met Des at Two Villanova XC and Track Alumni Golf outings in Pa. When I told her of his passing she immediately described him as "a lovely man". I look forward to playing with him on the other side. RIP, Marty
