Very sad and shocked to hear about Desi Dunne met him once at the Newbury rally and he put me on video something to do with Minelab. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
— Dave Walsh
I've known Des for many years although we had met only once, at Newark Airport, as he was transiting thru to visit the States. I traveled out there from Manhattan, where I live, to finally meet him. He was the sweetest person one could possibly know. We chatted via email about producing detecting videos, life, illnesses and family. It breaks my heart to hear that he's gone. God Bless You, Des.
— Joe Friedman

To Valerie, Cathal, and all the Dunne family. So sorry to hear of the death of your brother Des. May he rest in peace.
— Ber Cremin nee O'Herlihy, Cross Douglas Road,
I was very sad to hear of the passing of Des. When I arrived in Cork for the first time in 2001 to begin my time with Minelab Ireland I was overwhelmed by the friendship and support offered to myself and my wife, Kerry from the Minelab Team as we settled into our lives in Cork and Bandon. Des was a large part of that warm welcome and provided excellent advice to me when establishing our lives in a foreign land. Des advised me and then accompanied me to purchase my first car in Ireland and we settled on 'Edsel', a second hand Ford Festiva that was an excellent purchase and never gave me an ounce of trouble. I would have walked past it if it wasn't for Des. An exceptional gentleman, softly spoken, gracious with his time and loved a chat. He will be sadly missed. My deepest sympathies to his family. Lest we forget.
— Neale Sutton, Adelaide Australia

Desi, Joe Patrick and myself had many things in common besides our friendship... Our love of the outdoors, history, metal detecting, and most of all, we three had the distinct honor and responsibility of testing and reviewing metal detectors for public consumption starting back in the 80's. We all felt it was our duty to give true unbiased information to the consumer. On many occasions we would discuss, dissect, and critique new and old metal detectors among ourselves just for fun as we aged together. We had a strong long distance bond. Joe and I had no idea Des would leave this world this quickly. Desi wanted to live on forever it seemed. Our kinship was more like the "Three Musketeers". Now sadly, painfully, one of us is gone. Hunt on dear friend...

Des was such a wonderful friend to me. We were never able to meet in person because of the distance between us. We would share emails quite often. We both had 2 things in common, Metal detecting and Battling Cancer. I was blessed with a second chance and wanted so much to hear good news from Des as well. All the gold and silver you could ever want to find is waiting above. Good bye Friend.

I was so saddened to hear of Desi’s passing. When home at Xmas we met for a coffee and chat to catch up. Coming home always meant meeting up and having some fun and recalling days of old. Good clean fun and a few drinks and laughter. He is missed.
When speaking with Cathal last week we recalled time spent in Douglas and recalled old Des stories. Much too soon for him to be gone.
My condolences to you all at this time. Maybe gone but not forgotten.

It is with regret and sadness that I learned of the passing of Des.
I worked with Des at Minelab for several years and shared his company for many trips to foreign meetings and events. He was always willing to share his knowledge and advice and he also had a great ability to interact with people wherever he went. The outpouring of sympathy from many people throughout the world in our industry is a reflection of the friends he made, how he behaved as a person, and of the esteem and regard in which he was held.
He was kind hearted and a pure gentleman.
Please accept my sincere sympathies at this time.
May he rest in peace.
