I was very saddened to read of Dessie's recent passing. Sincere condolences to his wife Virginia, son Gearoid & to his brothers Seamus, Wally, Billy & Gearoid.
My immediate recall was of memories back in the 1950's of "down the Mall" in "McNamara's". Dessie was updating the kitchen from scratch. He designed, made & installed a modern kitchen of it's time. "Formica" was the new technology of the "Wireless" age. When he had a little spare time, he constructed a canoe which allowed Seamus & myself to explore the upper reaches of the Suir . Obviously God blessed all who sailed in it, in that we survived & He called Wally & Billy to follow Him in service.
Memories of summer evenings around the "Swinging Gates" on bikes with the Mc's home from Ballyfin College & Dessie being the mature older brother keeping a watchful eye on proceedings but being in the middle of it himself at the same time.
Times past; memories recalled will keep Dessie living on in our minds..
May he rest in the Peace of the Lord.
