Our deepest sympathy to you, Oisín, and all the family on the occasion of Donagh's passing. Late Emer and Donagh will be fondly remembered by all who knew them in Zimbabwe for their great work over many years in two very different but vital areas for Zimbabwe's development - education and electrification, their huge interest in issues of social justice and international equity, as well as their unfailing openness to new ideas and their great cordiality. They will be greatly missed by all who knew and appreciated them, and by many others too. With respect,

I shared a flat with Donagh and two others in Listowel in 1976 when we worked in Tarbert. He was a great guy. He had a great mind and could distil something complex into something understandable. He was always good company and I learned a lot from him - and not only that BB King and Leo Kottke made great music!

And this was my true task, to be the
music of the body. Do you understand? for truly the body needs a song, a spirit, a soul. And no less, to make this work,
the soul has need of a body,
and I am both of the earth and I am of the inexplicable beauty of heaven where I fly so easily,
so welcome, yes and this is why I have been sent, to teach this to your heart."
Mary Oliver

Donagh became a great friend via the late 1980’s campaign to free the Birmingham Six, Guildford Four, Judith Ward and other Innocent Irish prisoners framed by the British state. Donagh was a quietly dedicated activist who became a vital member of the Joe Kelly table quiz team for many years. Oisin, I was in the Mech Eng class of 71-74 with Donagh. A very unassuming gentle man, he was undoubtedly the 'brainbox' of the class and helped us all out at some stage or other. The last time I met him was in 2012 when we had a class reunion after a long time and we had a couple of pints together.
His goodness will live on in you and in all those he touched throughout his life.
