I'm very sorry to hear of Donal's passing. Countless times, I've stopped for tea while fishing through Carnadoe on the boat, and he would come strolling down. Donal always had time for a chat and was certainly never in a hurry! A great character, he always had a story and some knowledge to share. He lent his boat-building expertise to repair a boat I bought as a teenager and was delighted to see someone young share his love of the water. Carnadoe is forever changed without him.

I have lovely memories of glorious summer evenings sitting in a boat in Carnadoe.

Donal had Shannonside playing on the radio in the shed & the Junior Walker country music programme could be heard mixing with the sounds of the river.

One of the many wonderful Shannon memories I will always treasure .
May Donal RIP

— Ciaran and Patty Fallon, Rooskey/Kildare
Donal was a very special friend, who I met through shooting around the Shannon Lakes of Carnadoe some 60 years ago. A humble and hard-working man who was always willing to give his time and expert advice to sailors of the Shannon Waters. Boats were his life and he was well known for it far and wide. He read widely and was always on top of current affairs and his opinion and judgement of situations in friendly conversations were never far away. Surrounded by his parents, brother and six lovely sisters, the Conlon family was happy and complete. His hospitality to me was 2nd to none. He was a good and kind neighbour. He never smoked or drank his whole life, but amongst his many attributes was he never stopped complaining about the weather! Donal, thank you for your very special friendship which I found in magical Carnadoe, a place which will never quite be the same without you. David John - Leicester

We were very upset to hear of Donal's passing.
We last spoke to him during one of the few fine days of the Summer. Donal was his usual gentle and sociable self. His knowledge of boats and the waterways was incredible and he would willingly give advise whenever asked.
As novice boat owners 20 odd years ago, we were very lucky to meet up with him and he will be remembered by 2 generations of our family as a kind, gentle man who met you with a smile, an invitation to have a coffee and a willingness to given of his vast knowledge.
Our deepest condolences to the extended Conlon family and all who mourne Donal.
The Shannon has lost a wonderful ambassador! Rest easy Donal 💔
