Worked with Donal in old Fisheries / Marine days. He wore his authority lightly. Great colleague. Mark of the man that I smile when I think of him.
Cool clear water. Can see him singing it now at office functions.
Rest in peace Donal and my sympathy to his family on their loss.

Sincere sympathy to aunt eilish, colin, niamh, alan, brian and dear Paul, also sister gladys,Marie, uta,Ellen, peter, and grandchildren. Uncle Donal was a fierce nice fellow full of witt and charm. When he and auntie eilish used to come to visit my late mother Terry and myself here at garrynagh he used always have a present for me,it could be a book or a jigsaw and it would always be something educational. He once gave me a board game called mastermind and we both had great craic across the kitchen table trying to figure out what the others combination was.he even tried to teach me the card game poker but I wasnt much good at it so I stuck to twenty five and snap.donal always had great stories to tell and he enjoyed his smoke.im sorry not to be able to attend today due to the circumstances but holy mass will be offered for the repose of his soul, rest in peace in heaven. Peter.

Very sad to hear of Donal's passing. Sincere sympathy to his wife, family and friends. I worked in the Department of Fisheries on the administrative side in the late 1970s early 80s. Donal was always encouraging and made me laugh at a time when he knew I was low and struggling. Because of his helping hand, I stayed on in the Civil Service and made a worthwhile career there. Thank you Donal. I will always be grateful to you. Rest in peace now.

It is 43 years since as a very inexperienced Water Pollution Officer working in the then Waterford Fisheries District, I first met Donal. It says so much about him that, despite our not having met for many years, both retired and still serving former colleagues often recall our times and interaction with Donal and the very high regard in which he was and still is held.

I recall his teaching me the basics of flow measurements and pollution load estimation but most importantly about doing what was right. He had so many funny stories and just was a lovely person to deal with.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences to all of The Murphy Family.

May Donal Rest in Peace.
