I only recently heard of Donal's passing and my deepest sympathies to you Catriona, Daniel and Diarmuid and to your wider families. We soldiered together at NIHE/UL for a few years in the 1980s and it was always such a joy to catch up with Donal in the intervening years and, in hindsight, we just didn't do enough of that. Donal was one of ''nature's gentlemen'' and his loss will be immense but his suffering is over too. May God have mercy on his gentle soul.
