I was so sad to hear that Donal had passed away; may his gentle soul rest in eternal peace. When Donal was appointed as CEO of the former North Eastern Health Board in 1993, I had the pleasure and privilege of being his PA in Kells - he carried out the functions of CEO of two Boards, the NWHB and the NEHB, until 1997. Always a gentleman, he had a great working relationship with the staff and the members and by the time he left the NEHB in 1999, having been appointed as CEO of the ERHA, he had succeeded in developing many policies for better services in the NEHB for the people of the region. He had a huge work ethic and yet despite the enormous workload, he had a sense of humour too and a great rapport with the staff in Kells who were very sorry to see him leave. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis; codladh sámh
