A Lansdowne FC Stalwart Donal always had time for and connected with Club Members and Visitors alike. From U 20 through to Senior Squad he made it his business to befriend and make welcome those new and returning to the Club. Omnipresent both Saturdays and Sundays Home and Away and never obtrusively, he managed to watch and absorb the game quietly and and calmly. At the same time he made it his business to connect and engage with spectators, players’ parents and family members moving as he invariably did “ along the line”. A dyed in the wool Smithwicks Man he was always good company for a post match analysis in the Bar. We extend our sympathy to Lynne, our dear friend, and Donal’s unflinching supporter throughout in this most difficult and restrictive times.

Hello Grainne - please accept my sympathy on Donal's death. We hadn't met for many years until we met one day after Mass in Donnybrook church - there weren't many Old Crescent matches since then with Covid and so no chance to meet. I remember both of you very well from days on the Ennis Road as well as rugby and hope that you and Paul keep well. Please give my sympathy to Donal's wife and family also. God rest his good soul. To Lynne and family,
We still have great memories of the North American tour in 1980, the trips to and from Racing Club. With his Limerick French we were literally off to the races. The time we all flew in from Toronto for the opening of the South William. Crash course in the 2 minute Guinness pour, passed w flying colours. Attended Lansdowne AGM with him a while ago. What a character. Terrible loss to all of us.

Sincere sympathy to Lynne & her family and to Grainne, Paul & their family on the sad passing of Donal, He was a great character who was also a very talented No 8 on the rugby field. Indeed he
was the last surviving member of the Old Crescent RFC pack of the beaten Munster Cup Final team of 1962. Although a staunch member of Lansdowne RFC, he never forgot his roots in Old
Crescent. May he rest in peace.

To Lynne agus all the Ryans,
I knew Donie since my first day in Lansdowne in 1973. Joined the same day as Moss. He gave me the great Limerick welcome and I have never forgotten how amazing he was. I felt like part of the furniture in a week. Plus when we were on tour with Moss, in NZ agus Oz in 1987. What a lovely man agus great club supporter. I had a great visit with him actually the last time I was over in Lansdowne. Bit of a shock really. A wee prayer is what we’ll say.
Ni fheichimid a leitheid aris. Ar lamh deas De ata se.
