My sincere condolences on the passing of Karl. I had the honour to have him as my German teacher in Summerhill, and I had the great pleasure to bump into him by chance one day in Galway and address him in German some 20 years after moving to live in Germany myself. He opened our minds for all things German ..what greater gift can a teacher give to students.

Für unzählige Begegnungen hat er gemeinsam mit den anderen Mitbegründern der Partnerschaft Sligo-Kempten , den Grundstein gelegt und somit hatte viele Menschen allen Alters die Möglichkeit, Land und Leute kennen zu lernen und zu verstehen.

I first met him as a teacher of Religion in Summerhill and followed him over the Garavouge to the RTC where I received a few words of German from the wonderful man. Sincere condolences to the Bodeker family. Herr Bodeker was such a gentleman who always had time for a chat and a giggle. A super lecturer during my time in I.T Sligo and he always enquired as to how life was going in his own unique manner.

My sincere condolences to the family of Karl Bodeker on his death. I remember him in the years 1964 to 1966 in Taylor’s Hill Galway when he managed to get a class of girls with no prior knowledge of German to pass it in the Leaving Cert in 2 years. I remember his innate kindness and impeccable graciousness and fine teaching. May he Rest In Peace.
