My thoughts and sympathy to you all,
Helen.
— Helen Hanly Fogarty
Amuigh Faoin Speir was one of my favourite programmes on RTE as a child, it was so special as it featured local animals and birds and landscapes and Eamon's lovely voice bringing us through the scene. We met him walking his dogs beside Kilcoole beach last autumn, he looked so sprightly not reflecting his years, he stopped and chatted so friendly and approachable. He will be sorely missed. My sympathies to all his friends and family. Orla Moore

It is with deep sadness and precious memories that I learn of the death of a great Irishman. His love and advocasy of Irish country life through film and consoling narrative helped to shape my youth. No words are strong enough to say a big Thank you. As a Nation we stand in gratitude and while you find rest in the soil of your beloved Ireland may your soul live on in your library at Galway and the people who walked with you amuigh fan speir.
— John Flynn
My first connection with Eamon was on the wonderful TV programmes. Years later when he and the family moved in behind my house I frequently had to contact him to come and rescue his peacocks who would fly into my garden and then not be able to find their way home again. A wonderful, kind and gentle man who will be sorely missed.

Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to you, Laillí, and all the family on the death of Éamon. It just doesn't seem real that he is gone. He was such a household name in Ireland and always larger than life. We were so sad to hear of his passing and simply can't believe he has left us. He, and you, were good friends and, though we didn't meet all that often, we kept in touch always at Christmas, which was special. We both have fond and wonderful memories of times with Éamon and we'll miss him very much.
Our heartfelt condolences. Liz and Martin

May the garden of heaven blossom and sing for a true environmentalist. Eamon had such attention to detail, empathy with nature and the Irish culture firmly embossed on his heart. He was a man of the land, the rivers and the sea and he filmed, penned and shared his passion with us all. Thank you and may the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back to bring you safely home. Sympathies to all the de Buitlear family.

News of Eamon's death brought great sadness to all of us here residing at MARIANELLA, DARGLE VALE. We are so proud to live in the house that our childhood favourite programme maker lived in with his family. A lovely man, is what everyone tells us of Eamon when they call to our door. Our thoughts are with the extended de Buitlear family. R.I.P.
