Uncle Eamonn was an incredibly important part of our childhood whether we were living or visiting in Ireland. He was our wild, irreverent, fun, flying, car crashing, Poitin-drinking (he gave me my first nip), singing centre of every gathering and was adored by us all. He always had a kind and funny word to say, the biggest hugs and made each of us feel seen, understood and valued whether we saw him for a hour or a day. He personally showed me that if you had the ambition, life was there to be taken by the scruff and enjoyed. He took me to Howth and to grandad’s club to try my hand at golf, my sisters and I flying, and showed us how to make a car’s tyres squeal like a banshee on a roundabout. As for house parties, no evening was too long, nor song too ambitious. And these are the lessons we pass on. He leaves us knowing that he celebrated life to the full and we take our steer from him on that every day which is quite a legacy for us to privilege from. Sleep well Uncle Eamonn from Sylvia, Anita and Martin, Betty and Gerry O’Reilly’s children. Much love to our beloved cousins Aisling, Brian, Peter and Aunty Rita. Xxx
— OReilly family, Grantham, England

Dear Rita and Family,
Please accept our sincere Condolences on the passing of your Dear Husband, Eamonn. His ready smile, charm and quickness of wit were very much appreciated by his friends and colleagues in Abu Dhabi. In consequence, he could get away with practical jokes, without recrimination, that none of the rest of us could ever manage.
At the end of a busy Night Shift in Abu Dhab iall of our off-going ATCOs, Technicians, Met Office and Comms staff were sitting in the Company bus to take us to our various accommodations in the city, but waiting for Eamonn who had not yet appeared. He eventually arrived, grinning from ear to ear, jumped on the bus and shouted “Driver, take me to the Golf Club”. This was met with laughter by those on board, but it soon became apparent that we were not headed for home, but to the Golf Club, which was miles away from some of our accommodations !! While there were several comical quips from the hijacked staff members whilst enroute, no objections were raised. On arrival at the Golf Club Eamonn hopped down from the bus, and with a wide grin, waved, and shouted “Thanks Lads, sleep well” as he bolted to the Clubhouse. That was Eamonn!! We will not see his like again.
