I always admired how Ed (and his team) got a grip on the local cable tv system, and the energy he dedicated to its maintenance over the decades. He always responded to a call for help with patience and good humour.

He may even have flown me on many of my business trips over the years. As a terrified flyer I never listened to Captain’s introduction.

His sense of community will be missed in Bettyglen.

Very sorry to hear the news of Ed's passing. We knew him well from all his work with MABTVA keeping the community TV service going down through the years.

He was always very friendly and helpful, calling up many times to help our Dad whenever there was an issue (or to install an extra TV point!)

So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Whether climbing up aerials or fixing up old cars, he was always full of practical wisdom and advice,
I remember well having the pleasure of operating with Ed many times, including the very last BAC 1-11 commercial flight

From the very first moment I met Captain Ed as a young teenager I instantly knew that he was very different to the rest of the dads within our group. This became clear as he told me about his efforts to create the infrastructure to receive distance TV signals. I was immediately drawn to his can-do attitude - he never saw a problem as unsolvable!

Ed consistently gave his time to John's friends, he was a good listener, offered impartial advice and never forgot to check-in. I'm thankful for the guidance and assistance he provided me as a young man with my never-ending car and motorcycle maintenance issues, as well as emphasizing the importance of completing college.

My deepest condolences on the passing of such a kind and modest man. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time as you honor his memory.

Captain Ed was one of the most good natured, gentle men one could hope to meet. I was cabin crew with Aer Lingus and was always so happy to see him coming on board . Guaranteed to be a relaxed happy day! He doted on his family and treated crew like valued friends regardless . The world is poorer without him.

I joined Aer Lingus in 1964 and worked in Grd.Ops, firstly as a Red Cap and then in Station Control. Anytime Ed called on 131.5 his voice was instantly recognizable.

My deepest sympathies at the sad and unexpected passing of Ed. I have the happiest of memories of the friendship and encouragement he gave to me (and many others) starting out as a very young Co-Pilot on the BAC 1-11s back in 1979. Every flight was enjoyable and interesting and he certainly broadened my interests on a very impromptu trip to Verona to see the opera Attila - arranged while on a Dusseldorf overnight a couple of days beforehand. We travelled from Dublin to Verona via Amsterdam and Milan and returned via Lake Garda and Milan - all in approximately 36 hours! Ed personified the art of the possible!

I am very saddened by his passing. Rest in peace Ed.
