My sincere condolences to Frances and all of Eddie's family on his passing.

I have such positive memories of him as he was a great mentor and leader who made us care as much as he did for our work in Social Welfare.

I was very sorry to hear of Eddie's passing. He was a great support to me in my early days in the Civil Service and always had time to provide advice and guidance. I greatly respected the man.

Our work paths crossed many times over the years starting in Washington DC in the early 90s where I was based at the Embassy all the way to his time as SG Public Service and I was based in Aras an Uachtarain. Frances and family, We were saddened to hear the news of Eddie’s passing while we were travelling in New Zealand. He will be a great loss to you and family and also to a much wider community, including Syl’s where he provided invaluable guidance and assistance in, among other things, the building of the hurling wall. I valued Eddie’s professional counsel generously offered over many years in the various offices he uniquely held, enjoyed his lively and considered contributions, both public and private, and cherished his friendship. I’m so sorry to hear of Eddie’s death. We worked together when he chaired the Oireachtas Audit Committee where he was very supportive to me. But above all, we had great fun. My condolences to his family and all who loved him.
