Sincere sympathies to all the Collins family on Eddies passing. I had the pleasure of working with Eddie, suffice to say there was never a dull moment. He enjoyed music so much and often burst into song in the office. This is the time of year when he would be sowing the spuds. Eddie greatly enjoyed the garden and sharing the knowledge and produce. May he rest in peace in Gods heavenly garden

Eddie was 19 when I left for Savannah. I was 26. Though our time with Eddie was inevitably limited by distance, we made up for it with our visits home to Hawthorns and the Manor. Our visits leave us with indelible memories never to be forgotten. What comes to mind immediately was his beautiful capacity to be vulnerable when he delved into feelings and life. Eddie had no room for self-pity. He embraced life with whatever visited him each day with an open heart.

Eddie did not wear his faith on his sleeve. But he had a deep faith that comforted and sustained him throughout his days. When he tapped into the spiritual, it was no pious sentimental ramble. It was drawn out of places of acceptance and struggle. There was a courage and generosity born of the spirit imbibed from Sally and Mikey. Each member of my family: Mary, Margaret(rip), Michael, Collette, Anne and myself have our own special memories of Eddie. Mine include times in the garden at Hawthorns, to our duets in the Manor, to our intense discussions about life. But the memory engraved on my heart was our last visit with Eddie when he said “Liam, you have done enough out there, it’s time for you and Mary to come home.” Well Eddie, you are home in our hearts and you always will be. Until we see your smiling face again, May we be sustained by the love born into our hearts by Sally and Mikey.
