Edward (Eddie) Dolan

Sincere sympathy to the Dolan family on the passing of Eddie, May he rest in peace.

Watching the funeral service online today, and listening above all else to the wonderful tribute from his loving daughter Shirley, confirmed just how loved and respected Eddie really was. In our conversations we had covered much of our similar trajectories, emigration, leaving home, the Irish culture abroad, our good or favourable fortunes, and above all.our respective histories.
Eddie was a raconteur with an inexhaustible capacity for going over the old times. We were like minded.
But Eddie was , for an Irish emigrant then, a success story. Not that he ever mentioned it, or flaunted the results of his hard graft and endeavours, but he was an emigrant to be proud of.
My own admiration extended to the entire Dolan family..Being older, one could even recall.the sheer youthful vibrancy of his parents.
But only today I learned something new. His love of Country music. And I thought of Hank Williams, George Jones and Dolly. Alas, we never got to discuss this aspect of our shared experience.
And so, forgive me Eddie and family, I've settled for John Denver as a tribute.
"On the Wings of a Dream".

I have only known Eddie for the last four months but I feel I have known him all my life
Thanks to social media we struck up a friendship
Our common theme was Ballylinan
Every day we exchanged texts and a call about once a week
We travelled down memory lane and I had the great pleasure of visiting him in Chapel lane
Eddie thank you for your lovely company
