My deepest sympathy to Eithne and extended family on the passing of Eddie. He was that rare gift
to the human race in his technology expertise and being able to pass on that knowledge to his colleagues and to any college students he came across, struggling to complete their degrees or PHDs. He had a unique method of guiding them to a complete understanding of the subject which many of the college lecturers failed to do. He was completely unselfish with his time and an absolute gentleman. I don't know about his exploits on the field playing soccer, but it appears from the reports he left his mark there too!
Eddie became a good friend of mine from meeting him in Enterprise Ireland and I'll forever appreciate him giving his free time to both myself and my son while we were studying for our respective degrees. A super intelligent man and he dispensed his knowledge to all and sundry with patience and good humour and made it fun - a true professor. Thanks Eddie for giving us your time and all the good times we had and I know you are standing in the middle of a big room in Heaven still being just you. RIP Eddie.

Sincere sympathy to all of Eddie's family. Any of us who worked and played with him will be much saddened at the death of our friend Eddie. He was a widely popular and entertaining colleague. As well as bringing a serious level of knowledge (which he enjoyed sharing) and analytical rigour to his professional science and engineering work, Eddie was quite a character when it came to playing soccer and wider social activities Those of us who witnessed his eloquence and passion in relation to football matters, got great amusement from his description of various happenings on the field, sometimes in defiance of the laws of physics. Spending time in Eddie’s company was a barrel of laughs. His intelligence and comical banter will be sadly missed.
— Kevin O'Rourke ex IIRS etc

My sincere condolences to Eithne and family on their loss. Eddie was a good husband and father, and a gentleman. He was highly intelligent, clever and witty, loved sport, conversation and a good joke. As neighbours back in the 70s, we worked on his master's thesis project using a primitive computer and invariably we would end up playing "weather war" or "klingons" late into the night. Sadly, we lost contact over the years but he earned the highest respect from everyone when he obtained his PhD degree as a mature student. May he rest in peace.
