Eileen was my childhood friend, we shared a life of freedom and madness that only Castlerea can give you. We played by the river, made up stories, sang on gates of farmyards, with no parents keeping their eyes on us! The railway line was ours; the railway station was ours! We were watchmen for your grandfather (for trains) where he tolerated our singing out the window and almost causing road accidents. The Coopers were our good neighbours, on a street where every house was full to the brim of children and Patrick Street our territory. What happy memories of a childhood friend. I was so sad to hear of Eileen's untimely death and that of your father. I know they will find peace; I wish that you Pearl and Claire and all the Cooper and Mahon families find peace.
