I was so sad to hear of the news that Betty had passed. I have been doing Betty's hair for the last number of years and know her since I was about 15 after doing my work experience for TY with Karina.

I adored sitting talking to Betty and hearing all her amazing stories about her different careers, travels as a Judge, Ballyhagen and her doting on her brothers, mainly Pat as he was still alive, Anne Marie I feel like I know you at this stage. I had the pleasure of seeing Betty the week she went into hospital, to have her hair done and I am so happy I got to have one last catch up for old times sake. Inspirational lady who will always hold a special place in my heart!

May she rest in peace.

Love always, Cathal xx

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

“A good friend is like a four leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have.”

Farewell and Rest In Peace Betty Murphy. You are a fine example to us all. Condolences to your family and close friends during this time of grief. My thoughts and prayers with you all.
— Jacob Joy
It is was great sadness that we learnt of Betty's passing. She was our Patroness and staunch supporter from the start of the club in 1982. Betty came to South Africa twice to judge and was loved and revered by all who met her. Her love of Irish Wolfhounds transposed into a love of all who loved them! She will be so greatly missed. The world has lost a Great Woman.

I am so heartbroken. What an amazing woman. I have such fond memories of all Christmas’s throughout my life with Aunty Betty at the head of the table with dad on the other end. Lunches out with her, Sunday tea at her house with dad and some of my siblings, funny emails sent to each other for a laugh over the years, the dog shows I have been with her to over the years and lastly and most importantly her Aunty Betty isims. She had so much wisdom to share and her sayings were the best. I’ve often told her she should write them all down. I will miss her greatly. She was such an important member of our family. Growing up around Irish Wolfhounds was also a pleasure. Such gentle giants who always took a drink of water to drown me with their wet beards as I went to pet them & show them some love. She, dad & Uncle Tom are now together again and having a wonderful catch up. Sincere condolences to the other Murphy’s, Aunty Cepta, Daire, Colin & Caoimhe and also all her close friends in the Irish Wolfhound Club of Ireland. She will be greatly missed. I am homered to carry on her name. Much love x
— Elizabeth Murphy

We extend our sincerest sympathy to Aunty Cepta, Daire, Colin, Caoimhe and all my brothers and sisters on the passing of Aunty Betty (and extended family, of course). Unfortunately, we won’t be able to attend the funeral. It’s a heartbreaking loss especially as it’s so close to Daddy’s passing – two of the foundation pillars of my life gone within two months of each other – especially gut wrenching as we can’t attend her life celebration. I know Aunty Betty was missing her brother so very much. Aunty Betty was such an amazing lady – she was my confidante, my encouragement and I have very special memories of her at Primrose Park, Ballyhagan House, Ardeevin Ave. and Newcastle. I emigrated in 2001 and that changed but the highlight of our annual trips home was meeting up with her. She had such a very special place with all the Greenogue Murphy’s of all ages– she was so involved in every part of our lives. I know that she contributed so much to the IW world but she gave more to us. Love her so very much – please give her the send-off she deserves!
