I’m deeply saddened at the sudden passing of Emma this week. I am saddened too to be out of the country and unable to be at her funeral.
I have many memories of Emma as a teenager. We met aged 16 when she came to Villiers in 5th year having moved to Cratloe with her family from Arklow. Emma was like no one I had ever met before, she was outgoing, chatty, quirky and always seemed to be smiling. We soon became close friends and spent a lot of the next few years growing up and discovering life together.
She loved music and stretched my rather limited music interests to include The Clash and Sade.
I have fond memories of weekends in Cratloe helping Sylvia make apple pies and being taught by Gordon how to properly wash up and stack the ware in order to maximise space and drainage. A true engineer!
Emma was sociable and outgoing. She would chat to anyone and made lots of connections and friends. We had many adventures together.
Since those days life took us on differing paths and Emma and I weren’t in a lot of contact. However I am grateful for the young woman who brought a whirlwind of energy, fun, outgoingness, honesty and generosity into my life as a teenager and I treasure those years of friendship that we had together.
