We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Coxswain and send our sincerest condolences to the entire Lavelle family. Between the three generations of our family we all have many fond memories of time spent at sea or on camp with Coxswain. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
— The Farrell Family of 1st Port, 4th port and 8ú Calafort
Eoghan and I go back to the Rovers in 5th Port Sea Scouts. I will always remember Eoghan calling into my family home to go afloat in Grainne Mauve. Later he moved his boat to the Shannon and we used to go there . On two occasions I stood on his glasses and broke them.
I have many happy memories of those far away days made more enjoyable by my friend.
He is not gone only over the horizon. May he rest in Peace.
— Donal Carty

I was both a Student Nurse and Staff Nurse with him in the Richmond Hospital and one day he asked me if I wouldn’t mind him using my name He said he wanted to call his daughter this name as he loved it. My reply was it would be a pleasure. He was such a Gentleman and a pleasure to do rounds with. May He Rest In Peace.

Eoghan was a very friendly helpful staff member when I started in the Richmond in 1982. He was full of historical anecdotes of hierarchy and rankings in Dublin hospitals when he was young. I can still see him in my minds eye in the consultants room at Beaumont in his white coat. A truly gentle should and a decent man. My condolences to all his family. Rest in Peace Eoghan.
— Bill Tormey Chemical Pathology Richmond and Beaumont

Deepest sympathies to the all of the Lavelles and extended family. Eoghan was an ever-present reference point to us for the tidiest, safest, kindest, and best thought out solution for everything. Doc enriched our childhoods camping sailing and learning in 8ú Calafort, and far, far further afield. He taught us values and immensely useful skills and interesting snippets of information which we are now passing to our children. Thank you Coxswain. He is greatly missed but very fondly remembered by the Mac Aoidh (Magee) families.
— Eoin and Emer and their parents Eamon and Carmel

He was always interested and encouraging and a joy to spend time with. Fear stuama agus lách. Suaimhneas síoraí ar a anam uasal.

To describe Coxswain impact as significant on my life in what were very difficult years would be an understatement. To this day I make my daughters keep their sailing logs as they refine their craft in the San Francisco Bay. Always generous of spirit, patient to teach us the finer points of the rule of 12th’s and making us do navigation from Wales without the aide of GPS. RIP
— Jonathan Bruce

Condolences to the Lavelle family who were so lucky to have Eoghan at the helm.
Doc shared his knowledge with warmth and a gentleness. He was such a positive influence on so many throughout the different aspects of his life, sailing, sea scouts, medicine and I believe occasionally stepping in for Grainne. In a time when we are not sharing hugs I picture him having the longest, tightest hug with Grainne. Rest in Peace Doc.

My friend Eoghan was one of the most influential people in my life. We were both scouts in Dollymount sea scouts and Eoghan asked me to help him start a sea scout troop in Dún Laoghaire. I agreed and the result was 8ú Calafort. I miss him dearly. My thoughts are with LILO and the girls at this difficult time.
