Deepest sympathies to Fr Eddie and the Conway family on the sad passing of Eugene. A friend of Eugene's, the late Fr Joe Garrihy , sent him to stay with us in Collins Ave for a few days when he began working in Dublin in the early 60s, and he left many years later. Our parents Jack and Elizabeth ( or Mrs Walsh as he called her) adopted him as another son and he also became and remained a big brother. With his strong GAA pedigree , Eugene quickly fitted into the GAA scene in Whitehall, where our family were active. He played a few matches, greatly enjoyed card games in our house with Whitehall Gaels committee members , and became a fixture in Section E of the old Hogan Stand , as a steward for big matches. When Marie’s arrival took Eugene southside , we continued to stay in touch and they were regulars at family events . Eugene always looked out for us , as he did for many others. May God look out for Eugene now , and Marie too.
